An expanded explanation-
It's possible that the modern birth process maybe one of the most traumatic experiences a person will endure in their life. Pregnancy is a safe and natural process, however, today it is often looked at as a "medical condition." Difficulties during the birth process typically arise if mom is functioning at less than 100%. Keep in mind that a woman's body is designed for the process of growing a baby and giving birth to that baby.
90% of all babies born have cranial or spinal misalignment due to the birth process itself, interfering with life and health at this critical state of development. Viola Frymann, D.O., founder of the Osteopathic Center for Children in San Diego, California, studied the impact of birth on babies and found through palpation of 1,250 newborns in San Diego hospitals that 85-90% of all babies have some kind of spinal/pelvic misalignment and also that cranial compression occurs, in some more than others, depending on birth circumstances. Dr. Shae believes it is extremely important for all children to be checked for subluxations as soon as possible after birth. A subluxation is a lack of motion within the nervous system that results in stress and ill health within the body. Chiropractors are trained to detect and remove these subluxations. By removing subluxation within the nervous system, your newborn's body will have the ability to function at a higher level.
Nerve irritations (or vertebral subluxations) occur as a part of normal daily life. They may result from physical, chemical or emotional stressors. Those insults to our health include things such as bad posture, prolonged sitting, inadequate sleep, tumbles and falls, lack of proper nutrition, dehydration, exposure to chemical toxins, stress and anxiety. Some research suggests that even before those lifestyle stressors have an impact, nerve irritation may occur in the pregnant uterus from awkward positioning, restriction of movement, and exposure to toxins. Subluxations or nerve irritation may also occur from birth complications such as long labours, very fast labours, or forceps or caesarean delivery. (2)
As children continue to grow and develop, their spines undergo many forms of trauma (physical, chemical and emotional). The many simple traumas of life, which happen again and again, result in subluxations.
Dr. Shae focuses extensively on removing subluxations within the body, optimizing health and vitality in the nervous system to allow for optimal function within the body. She provides parents with all the information they need concerning health and wellness. Dr. Shae is a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and completed her pediatric certification in 2010. She is currently working with the ICPA on her 400 hour diplomate degree in Family Health and Wellness.
